When a baby’s weight curve on a conventional weight curve veers either upward or downward through the centiles, is it because it is failing to thrive/being fed to excess, regaining its genetic level or simply regressing to the mean? Two sets of Thrive line acetates will help you decide.
The acetates are unique. They embody a new concept in growth assessment, sensitively combining distance, velocity and a conditional reference. The lines correspond to the 5th% and 95th% conditional weight gain velocity and define the boundaries for failiure to thrive/excessive feeding. The acetates are at present applicable only for term infants in their first year of life. They can be used only with the UK cross-sectional 9-centile growth charts and conform to the current UK recommended 4 week weight surveillance protocol.
